Please read the following information about the Lieutenant Governor's Medal Program before starting the application. The invitation to apply isn't transferable and only applications from invited students will be considered.

Program Description

The
Lieutenant Governor’s medal program was established in 1979 to recognize students enrolled in vocational and career programs less than two years long at public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia. The medal program was created to recognize students who excel in their studies and contribute to the life of their institution or community. For nearly forty years, British Columbia’s Lieutenant Governor has awarded the medal to outstanding students who have distinguished themselves through their post-secondary education.

Starting in 2019, eligibility for the Lieutenant Governor’s medal program was expanded to include students graduating from two-year diplomas and four-year undergraduate degree programs at public post-secondary institutions in B.C who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of inclusion, democracy and/or reconciliation within their campus community.

Award Guidelines
The Lieutenant Governor’s medal program is a prestigious badge of recognition for recipients granted for outstanding contributions in support of Inclusion, Democracy, and/or Reconciliation.

UBC nominates one student each calendar year for contributions made that demonstrate any one or a combination of these three award criteria. In addition, students should be in the top 15% of their Faculty (with no failed courses).

Award Administration
Interested and qualified UBC students who have conferred from their degree program during the November 2024 Graduation Ceremony or have applied and expect to graduate during the May 2025 Graduation Ceremony are required to submit their online application before the deadline to be considered. The decision rendered by the adjudication committee is final and there is no opportunity to appeal the decision.

The student selected to receive the Lieutenant Governor’s medal will be notified in May 2025.
